“Addictions can be very, very bad but addiction itself is not bad.

It’s a case of what you’re addicted to.

You better live each day like it’s your last, ‘cos one day you’re going to be right”.

Ray Charles.

Antz has a great supporter for several years so here's soem views about what motivates him. Give him a shout if you need kayak purchasing advice as he runs his own mag "NZ kayak buyers guide", his own bog at eye4adventure.blogspot.com and is well involved in cumecmagazine.blogspot.com as well.

"Hey there,

Really we don't have enough time in today's world with so many missions to be completed, waves to be surfed & faces to be climbed.

Recently everything has been trying to cram itself inside a tiny wee box which is in reality just a short space a time. October has been crazy, at the start of the month I returned from Rotorua with 5 weeks to create the NZ Kayak Buyers Guide & bring my new whitewater magazine to life.

Four of those weeks have now passed, it's Sunday night & I now have a little over a week to finish the 2 magazines & deal with other insignificant matters like overdue Polytech assignments & preparation for some coming exams.

Ollie Yeoman on Freight Train, Nevis river, NZ.

With all this pressure I wondered how the beast within could deal with a little forced hibernation. Answer: it couldn't hide, it kept rearing its head to go exploring. Missions started coming out of nowhere, mid-week to the Upper Waikaia (G5) with the local lads saw some mint waterfalls & good times.

But still it yearned for more, surfing & instructing. Then again the next week back into Central Otago for the Big One, that river that always creates stories & yarns.

"The Nevis" (G5) steep and technical, windy and cold! ME content! The thing I keep realising is that no matter how hard I try to control it, in all reality it controls me.

It has this power shape my weeks & days. Knowing that it is in me is awesome, without the knowledge of it I'd probably just go insane.

All I need is to feed that craving whether it's out on the creeks, big water, in the surf or teaching someone else about the pleasure of paddling. Ever since a young guy the outdoors has been my escape, the way in which I’ve been closest to reaching nirvana.

Whether climbing a mountain, running a river, sticking a boulder problem or throwing down in the surf, the feeling lingers, but soon enough it fades and slowly something creeps in and eats away at me.The desire that’s burning inside to experience the synergy of humans and nature.

Joining forces with like minded souls, then you find a place that you’ll never find whilst sipping lattes in a cafe or sitting watching soap-operas.

It is always wandering, never fulfilled forever searching for the meal that will always be just out of reach. ….

Here is the first ever Tekapo Throwdown was held on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of November 2007, a 2-day event featuring coaching clinics, a ball race, and freestyle kayak rodeo and a great time ... Antz
