“Addictions can be very, very bad but addiction itself is not bad.
It’s a case of what you’re addicted to.
You better live each day like it’s your last, ‘cos one day you’re going to be right”.
Ray Charles.
Warwick is an outdoors instructor, understands what it is to create a lifestyle out of being in the hills and on the water and by the sounds of it isn’t going to be enrolling in dental school any time soon …..
“Why do I do these things?
Because it's not just the feeding side of things, it’s more than that. It’s the connectivity of something more, the abundance of living far from the concrete towers which are a sterile jungle, to strip back the veneer and reveal true wilderness is purity itself.
Why go out there, to be immersed in forest, water and rock, to have that fleeting second of wonderment, fear, satisfaction and bliss with whatever it is that we humans are trying to feed on?
It’s to feel alive again, to feel the unknown, to lose certainty in something and to gain the excitement of not knowing of what is on the other side of the coin; that’s what gets me rocking into the outdoors.
I’m not hard-core in pushing the boundaries - I wish I was! But I take enjoyment in getting out there, doing new stuff for myself and enjoying it with friends; you never know when they might move on or yourself for that matter.
I’ve been an outdoor instructor for a few years, working with a plethora of different companies and organizations, trying my hand at different pursuits. Travelling, meeting crazy and sombre people alike, interacting with wind, waves, birds, insects and animals and taking solitude in our natural environment.
And belonging to a community that revokes the social norms - that's an awesome part!
To catch up with friends for a beer and talk of our adventures or to have the excitement of planning a big trip and to meet like minded people along the way - life's one big adventure with no set rules.
That's why I do it ….. Warwick”.
