“Addictions can be very, very bad but addiction itself is not bad.

It’s a case of what you’re addicted to.

You better live each day like it’s your last, ‘cos one day you’re going to be right”.

Ray Charles.

Some final stuff and that’s it.

OC details:

OC’s website is here and you’ll see a wide range of laptop models and brands, some great rugged PDA’s and a ton of accessories to have a browse through. And send Mack an email to tell him who you are and what you’re after:  harris(at)ocrugged.com

Prices:

From what we found out, here’s how things stand. Prices in Europe are roughly double that of the US and in Australia they’re just on treble, so that means at time of writing, a CF-30 is about $8,500 local beads, which is clearly insane.

Shipping:

OC will ship anywhere but for crew in Australia, you want to do this …. Buy the thing but make sure you get it shipped with UPS or Fed Ex and not by the Post Office.

Any unit over AU$1,000 attracts NO customs or duty but you WILL be charged 10% GST. So what you do is get UPS or whoever to pay the GST for you and when you collect the unit from them, you pay them the money you owe. The other options are do it yourself with customs forms etc or a customs agent does it for you.  Total nightmare … forget about it.

Warranty:

Australia: In the event that during the warranty period the unit craps itself, rather than you killing it by being careless, Panasonic Australia WON’T handle the claim.

The Panasonic Global Warranty does not apply here; their thinking is that you bought it from the Yanks, let them sort it out. The good thing is though that OC will honour it, so all you need to do is send it back to them. You’ll have to pay for shipping it back to them and then back to Oz but given the saving on the purchase price, it’s a joke.

Europe: Here’s the story ….

“Yes, if you buy in the US the warranty will be honoured; it’s covered under our global warranty scheme”.

James Goble, Account Manager Healthcare, Panasonic Business Systems UK Ltd

And James is Panasonic Europe, not just UK but what you HAVE to do is when you buy the unit, keep the receipt and get a Panasonic Global Warranty card from OC; you’ll need both of them to have Panasonic touch your busted Toughbook.

Alright …. that’s about enough of this gibberish, buying one of these things could be a good solution to having started a trip with high hopes on the computing front but coming back with a big bag pixelated nothing.

And just for the record, we don’t get a kickback from OC for any sales but if there are a ton of them generated, we want a present which weighs 2.2kgs ……. got it Harris?
