“Once the plane reaches 12,500 feet, the group prepares for the jump. Pastrana puts a climbing harness on underneath his shorts. Once he jumps, Palmer will hook his parachute to Pastrana's harness and tow him in for a landing.

Pastrana peers over the edge before placing his life into the hands of Palmer and McMaster. It was definitely something new for Travis, Palmer said. He's usually the one in the driver's seat.

A round of high fives, and then ... Bill Halsey, the photographer, jumps first, followed by McMaster, Pastrana and Palmer.

The Red Bull is a prop for a scene in the film (Travis wakes up, cracks a can of Red Bull, then realizes it really does give you wings), but when he opens the can, he sprays everything around him, including Halsey's camera lenses.

Once out of the plane, Pastrana releases the can of Red Bull and begins flipping-one, two, three ... before flipping to his stomach to stabilize himself. Next, McMaster and Palmer approach for the hookup.

This was the eeriest sight Halsey says. I jump every day, and this was the craziest thing I've ever seen in freefall. I started thinking, if they don't catch him, he's gone

Pastrana gives his trademark thumbs up before the most important part of the jump: the hook-up. First, McMaster flies toward Pastrana, grabs onto his hands. Next, Palmer flies to Pastrana and hops on his back. He then hooks his own parachute to the climbing harness Pastrana is wearing under his shorts. By 9,000 feet, the hook-up is complete and the parachute is deployed a few thousand feet later. I had complete trust in him, Pastrana says.

As Pastrana and Palmer approach the landing zone, reality sets in. Once we were under the canopy and realized we were safe, we started laughing and revelling in the fact he'd just jumped out of a plane without a parachute.

Safely on the beach, the group celebrates and Palmer was so excited that he ran and jumped in the ocean with his jumpsuit on.
